What We Do
Meet our Team
Board of Directors
The Presque Isle Conservation District (PICD) is a local unit of state government charged with the mission of conserving, restoring, and protecting local natural resources for the public good and for the long-term stewardship of the land. PICD’s Staff and Board of Directors are devoted to protecting natural areas and ensuring all members of the community have outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities and educational resources to assist them in land stewardship efforts.
PICD manages all lands under its administration and ownership (currently the Herman Vogler Conservation Area) for the highest ethical purpose of the “public commons” and for the benefit and conservation of natural resources. Our Staff and Board considers the protection of water quality in our local streams and rivers to be of the highest importance.
Our Board is composed of five community members who all consider it their mission to ensure resident landowners have the technical assistance and resources they need for proper land stewardship, and to help educate others about the unique value of northeast Michigan’s land, waters and its undeveloped wildness. Currently composed of two local farmers, a retired forester, 4H program coordinator, and a retired security specialist, the Board is elected to oversee District operations and meets at 11:00am on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
