Due to an ordering snafu, we have extra large black spruce saplings this year! A true northern species that grows on boggy sites in the wild. Their unique, narrow, spire-like crown often earns them the nickname “Dr. Seuss trees”, after his unique style of illustration. Provides grouse habitat and is associated with a variety of songbirds. Soft-needled, unlike most other spruces, but rarely planted for Christmas trees.
Prefers moist soils. Full sun to partial shade.
Deer browsing protection not usually necessary for this species.
Sold as bareroot saplings, 2-3 ft. tall.
