Shepherdia canadensis
A shrub native to northern forests that produces small, red, berry-like fruits. Can grow under a wide range of conditions, but most commonly naturally occurs in rocky areas like eastern Presque Isle County and wet-boggy areas. Can survive on poor soils due to its ability to add nitrogen to the soil through nitrogen fixation. The fruits are appealing to grouse, black bears, and snowshoe hares.
Sold as bareroot seedlings 6-12" tall.
