Morus rubra
Produces abundant, edible, deep red/purple fruits that attract songbirds, upland game birds, and other wildlife. Multiple interesting leaf shapes. Red mulberry is native to Michigan but is less common than its invasive cousin, white mulberry, which produces weedy hybrids with red mulberry in southern Michigan. Prefers moist, fertile soils and can tolerate shade well, often growing under other mature trees.
