Larix laricina

This conifer turns a golden yellow and drops its needles in the fall. One of our fastest growing conifers. Very rot resistant wood. Grouse eat the buds and seeds, deer will use Tamarack as cover, and the open canopy allows a profusion of wildflowers, sedges, and grasses to grow underneath. Grows in a wide range of soil types. Does best where soil moisture is consistent. Needs full sun.

Usually does not require protection from deer.

Sold as containerized seedlings (plugs).
